Job summary

National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) invites applications for an EL1 Senior Lawyer to lead legal work across government matters. You will provide legal advice, draft key instruments, and support strategic initiatives aligned with NIAA objectives.

Under the General Counsel and Principal Lawyers, you will oversee legislation, contracts and dispute resolution, while mentoring less experienced staff and ensuring professional standards.

Qualifications

• Legal qualifications and admission to practice.
• Eligibility for government restricted Australian legal practising certificate.
• Post-admission experience preferred (3–5 years).

Responsibilities

• Design, development and implementation of legislation, policies and programs in support of NIAA objectives.
• Handle grant and procurement contracts, property and other commercial law matters.
• Cover freedom of information, privacy, finance law, employment law and other corporate law matters.
• Manage Commonwealth dispute resolution and litigation.
