Job summary

XPT Software Australia Pty Ltd in Sydney is seeking an experienced Senior Kafka Administrator/Developer to design, build, operate and improve enterprise Kafka platforms across AWS and Kubernetes, including Amazon EKS. You will work with application, integration, cloud, security and operations teams to deliver reliable event-driven solutions, automate tasks and support platform lifecycle.

The role requires strong hands-on Kafka administration, integration development and cloud-native operations.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience administering Apache Kafka in enterprise environments.
• Solid understanding of Kafka components: brokers, topics, partitions, replication, consumer groups, Connect, Schema Registry, MirrorMaker.
• Experience developing producers, consumers and integration services using Java, Spring Boot or Python.
• Experience with Kubernetes and AWS EKS, including Docker, Helm, networking and secrets.
• Experience with AWS services; CI/CD and IaC tools.
• Strong Linux, networking and troubleshooting.
• Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana or CloudWatch.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Kafka platforms, including brokers, topics, partitions, replication, consumer groups and Connect.
• Design and develop producers, consumers and integration services in Java, Spring Boot or Python.
• Deploy, operate and improve Kafka on Kubernetes and EKS using Helm, CI/CD and GitOps patterns.
• Manage platform reliability, capacity, performance, upgrades, backup and lifecycle across environments.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across brokers, schemas, networking and cloud infra.
• Implement monitoring, alerting and dashboards for broker health and throughput.
• Apply security and governance controls including TLS, auth, ACLs and secrets.
• Support incidents, changes and releases with root-cause analysis and runbooks.
• Guide application teams on topic design, partitioning and schema evolution.
