Job summary

Nasdaq, Inc. is seeking a Senior Java Developer in Sydney, Australia. You will own end-to-end software challenges from requirements to production-ready solutions, spanning backend, security, and cross-platform development.

The role requires at least 3 years of Java experience, strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms, and familiarity with CI/CD and various databases. A hybrid work arrangement is available with in-office days in Sydney.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years strong Java development experience with solid design principles.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases including design and querying.
• Experience with CI/CD practices.
• Ability to write secure, testable, maintainable code.
• Experience with cross-platform development.

Job description

As a Senior Java Developer reporting to Director - Software Engineering, you'll take end-to-end ownership of meaningful technical challenges - from understanding requirements to shipping production-ready solutions. You'll work across backend systems, security, and cross-platform development, contributing to both new builds and the evolution of existing products. You'll thrive here if you're self-directed, curious, and energized by solving complex problems that have real impact on a global scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions that meet or exceed product and client requirements
• Build and maintain security-focused applications of increasing scope and complexity
• Extend and improve existing systems - adding functionality, enhancing performance, and adapting to new environments
• Ensure cross-platform compatibility across all deliverables
• Monitor system improvements post-deployment and iterate based on performance outcomes
• Contribute to architecture, database design, and technical direction as needed

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience
• At least 3 years strong, hands-on Java development skills with a solid understanding of software design principles, data structures, and algorithms
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases - including design, analysis, and querying
• Proven experience with continuous integration and deployment practices
• Demonstrated ability to write secure, testable, and maintainable code
• Experience with cross-platform or multi-environment development

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Experience with data warehousing or large-scale data systems
• Background or interest in application security best practices

This position will be located in Sydney, Australia and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 2 days a week in-office (may increase to 3 days in the future). This is a permanent, full-time role so candidates should have full working rights in Australia. To be eligible to apply, you must have Australian citizenship or permanent residency status.
