Job summary

Job description

Reporting to the Team Leader, this role sits within a specialist infrastructure team responsible for managing and supporting a large and complex enterprise ICT environment. The successful candidate will work across Microsoft Windows and Linux platforms, delivering infrastructure support, system administration, cloud services management, automation, and technical project outcomes. With a strong focus on operational excellence, security, and continuous improvement, the position provides exposure to modern technologies including Azure, VMware, DevOps practices, and enterprise infrastructure solutions while supporting critical government business operations.

What you will be doing.Assist with the management of the installation, maintenance and support of the ICT environment and systems;

• Build, manage and support Azure-based and hybrid infrastructure
• Automate infrastructure and operational tasks using PowerShell, JSON and Bicep
• Develop and maintain Azure DevOps pipelinesfor infrastructure and automation
• Manage virtual environmentsacross Azure and VMware
• Implement and maintain automated patchingfor Windows and Linux (SCCM / Azure Update Manager)
• Manage backup and recoverysolutions (Azure Recovery Services Vaults, Veeam)
• Monitor systems and respond to alerts using Azure Monitor
• Administer Active Directoryand identity-integrated services
• Manage the full server lifecycle(build, patch, upgrade, decommission)
• Troubleshoot and resolve incidents with a focus on automation and reliability

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake a leading role in a responsive and effective problem resolution service that minimises disruptions and meets agreed performance targets for networked information systems and associated applications.
• Consult, negotiate, liaise and provide expert advice to staff at all levels on the operation of the information systems infrastructure and facilities.
• Identify gaps and opportunities in the delivery of TDS services; coordinate the investigation of potential solutions on behalf of clients; and work with TDS staff and management to develop, analyse, evaluate and propose new or additional services.
• Influence and encourage a culture of high-quality customer service by fostering adherence to quality system processes and continually seeking improvement.
• Contribute to effective teamwork within TDS by understanding the roles of other team members and working collaboratively to deliver services to the department.
• Investigate and identify analytical and problem-solving activities for the maintenance and support of a large and complex IT environment.
• Manage and coordinate minor projects to implement and upgrade the IT environment.
