Job summary

National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) in Canberra is seeking an APS5/6 Lawyer to contribute to designing, developing and implementing legislation, policies and programs in support of the agency's objectives. You will work under the direction of senior legal staff, providing clear, concise advice and drafting support for complex government matters.

Qualifications

• Legal qualifications, admission to practice and eligibility to hold a government restricted Australian legal practising certificate.
• APS5: Lawyer, a minimum of 3 to 6 months post-admission experience preferred.
• APS6: Lawyer, a minimum of 1 to 3 years post-admission experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice, drafting and strategic support for legislation, policies and programs.
• Advise on grant and procurement contracts, property and commercial law matters.
• Assist with freedom of information, privacy, finance and employment law and other corporate matters.
• Support Commonwealth dispute resolution and litigation.
