Job summary

WSP Canberra is seeking a Senior Hydraulic Engineer to lead hydraulic design across local and national projects within our Building Services team. You will mentor junior engineers and engage closely with clients, authorities and internal teams to ensure compliant, cost-effective solutions.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years of Australian experience in hydraulic design, strong regulatory knowledge (AS/NZS, NCC), and BIM proficiency (Revit/NavisWorks).

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent.
• 6+ years' experience on Australian building services projects in hydraulic design.
• Strong knowledge of AS/NZS, NCC and related standards.
• Experience in consulting engineering; D&C contracting valued.
• Familiar with BIM platforms (Revit, NavisWorks); Revit capability preferred.
• Citizenship preferred due to security clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

Job Description

WSP Canberra is seeking an experienced Senior Hydraulic Engineer to join our highly skilled Building Services team. As part of a leading global engineering and professional services firm, you’ll contribute to impactful projects across civic and public infrastructure, defence, commercial, and education sectors.

Due to project requirements, Australian citizenship is preferred to support security clearance eligibility.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Hydraulic Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering high‑quality hydraulic services design across both local and national projects. Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading hydraulic services design on multidisciplinary projects, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, commercial, and regulatory requirements.
• Producing high‑quality engineering documentation that delivers efficient, cost-effective outcomes for clients.
• Taking ownership of small to medium projects while also contributing to larger, complex project teams.
• Collaborating closely with clients, authorities, and internal teams to drive project success.
• Building strong client relationships and identifying new business opportunities within the Canberra and regional markets.
• Providing mentorship, guidance, and technical support to junior engineers within the Property & Buildings group.

About You

• Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, or similar) or equivalent industry experience.
• 6+ years of experience working on Australian building services projects, specifically in hydraulic services design.
• Strong knowledge of relevant Standards, Codes, and regulatory frameworks (AS/NZS, NCC, etc.).
• Experience in consulting engineering is ideal; D&C contracting experience is also valued.
• Familiarity with BIM platforms (e.g., Revit, NavisWorks) is advantageous, with working Revit capability preferred.
• Ability to work in secure project environments (citizenship preferred due to clearance requirements).
