Job summary

ABB Australia is seeking a senior electrical/mechatronic engineer to lead hoisting solution design. You will work across electrical, control, and drive systems, ensuring safety and cybersecurity alignment while coordinating with site teams.

You will manage multiple projects, provide technical leadership, and mentor engineers. The role offers hybrid work in Australia and exposure to world-class hoisting technology.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent experience), eligible to practice in Australia.
• Experience in mine hoisting systems or safety-critical heavy industrial applications.
• Strong capability in electrical power systems, large variable speed drives, control systems, and industrial networks.
• Familiarity with functional safety lifecycle practices and standards (IEC 62061/61508 or equivalent).
• Experience supporting manufacturing, testing, installation, and commissioning activities.
• Ability to mentor engineers, share lessons learned, and contribute to engineering standards and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical interface across the complete hoisting system with mechanical, control, safety, and site teams.
• Lead technical discussions, shape hoisting solutions, and incorporate customer feedback.
• Deliver projects including new hoist installations, upgrades, and life-cycle extensions with drive and safety systems.
• Create work plans and cost estimates; ensure quality, timely implementation within budget.
• Coordinate designs with manufacturing, staging, testing, installation, and commissioning teams.
• Support on-site commissioning activities and coaching engineers on translating concepts to documentation.

Each day, you will plan and perform assignments on multiple projects of varying complexity or portions of major projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by ensuring assignments are completed in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards.This role provides a clear pathway to a future technical leadership within ABB's Hoisting business, as the team continues to grow in Australia.The work model for the role is: HybridThis role is contributing to Hoisting business unit as part of Mining and Materials Business in Australia. The main stakeholders are our clients and project managers.You will be mainly accountable for:Acting as the technical interface across the complete hoisting system, working closely with mechanical, control, safety, and site commissioning teams to deliver best-in-class performance.Serving as a trusted technical authority for customers, shaping hoisting solutions, leading technical discussions, and incorporating customer feedback to continuously improve outcomes.Delivering projects including new hoist installations, upgrades, and life‑cycle extensions involving drive systems, safety systems, and site-based commissioning activities.Creating work plans and cost estimates for the portfolio of projects and ensuring quality, timely implementation within the targeted cost.Coordinating with relevant functions to ensure the designs are appropriately manufactured, staged, tested, installed, and commissioned.Supporting and executing on-site commissioning activities.Coaching engineering colleagues on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, best practices, and lessons learned from past projects.Our team dynamicsYou will join a collaborative and experienced team that supports one another across site, engineering, and product functions.
