Job summary

International Engineering Consultancy in Newcastle, NSW, is seeking a Senior/Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead tailings storage facilities, dams and related mining infrastructure. The role offers senior leadership, client engagement and mentoring within a growing Newcastle team.

The successful candidate will provide technical direction across major geotechnical projects, with responsibility for design delivery, technical oversight and project management, across Australian and international

Qualifications

• 15+ years' relevant engineering experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in tailings, dams, mine waste or complex geotechnical infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of ANCOLD, GISTM, ICOLD and CDA.
• Experience with geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, PLAXIS, Rocscience, FLAC or similar.
• Proven project management, technical leadership and team mentoring experience.
• Strong communication skills and client relationship development.
• Chartered professional status or eligibility to obtain registration is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, assessment and delivery of tailings storage facilities, dams and mine waste infrastructure.
• Provide senior technical oversight across geotechnical investigations, slope stability and seepage analysis.
• Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams and deliver complex projects from concept to completion.
• Undertake technical reviews, prepare engineering reports and ensure compliance with standards.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients across mining, resources and water sectors.
• Identify new business opportunities and contribute to proposals and project development.
• Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers.
• Potential Engineer of Record responsibilities depending on experience and qualifications.
