Job summary

Northern Star Resources is seeking Senior Geotechnical Engineers to join the Thunderbox and Jundee operations on an 8 day on/6 day off roster, FIFO from Perth. You will provide technical geotechnical leadership across underground and open pit sites, supporting safe mine design and ground control.

Lead and mentor geotechnical teams, perform evaluations and risk assessments, and contribute to procedures and reporting to ensure compliant, efficient mining operations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in resources industry (underground/open pit).
• Experience leading and developing geotechnical teams.
• Experience with mine design software, notably Deswik.
• Experience with seismic monitoring systems (IMS).

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and provide technical guidance to Geotechnical Engineers.
• Provide geotechnical support to operations and ensure compliance with requirements.
• Contribute to development of departmental systems, processes and procedures.
• Review and update Ground Control Management Plans.

We currently have opportunities for Senior Geotechnical Engineers to join our Thunderbox and Jundee operations on an 8 day on, 6 days off roster, FIFO from Perth.

These roles offer the opportunity to provide technical geotechnical support and leadership across our underground and open pit operations, contributing to safe mine design, ground support, monitoring and geotechnical risk management.

You’ll work closely with operational and technical teams to provide practical geotechnical advice and support safe, efficient mining outcomes.

What you can look forward to:

• Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to Geotechnical Engineers, supporting capability development and consistent application of geotechnical standards.
• Provide geotechnical support to the operation and ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements.
• Contribute to the development of departmental systems, processes, and procedures.
• Review and update Ground Control Management Plans
• Carry out geotechnical evaluations, risk assessments and make geotechnical recommendations.
• Look for, assess and implement Business Improvement opportunities.
• Engage with site personnel on a regular basis to determine specialist geotechnical requirements.
• Prepare month-end reports documenting key activities/issues occurring in the month for submission.

Where you’ll add value:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the resources industry, across underground and/or open pit mining environments
• Strong people leadership skills, with the ability to positively lead and develop a team.
• Experience with mine design software, particularly Deswik.
• Experience with seismic monitoring systems, including IMS.
• Familiarity with Map3D and Phase2 numerical modelling software.
• Familiarity with Dips and Unwedge geotechnical software.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with operational and technical teams.

Qualifications:

• Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent.
• Current unrestricted WA C Class Manual Driver’s Licence.
