Job summary

Northern Star Resources is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer for our Kalgoorlie operations. This residential 8/6 roster, 12‑hour shifts, presents a unique opportunity to lead geotechnical deliverables in a high‑performing underground team.

You will provide expert geotechnical advice, manage ground support strategies, and oversee QA/QC activities while using Deswik and IMS to monitor conditions and model rock stress. Strong safety focus and collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• Tertiary Geotechnical Engineering qualification required.
• Current WA C-class (Manual) driver's license.
• St John’s Senior First Aid certificate desirable.

Responsibilities

• Safe management and delivery of all geotechnical requirements for underground mining.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice for underground areas and ground support design.
• Oversee QA/QC for ground support installation, rock bolt testing and rehabilitation plans.
• Maintain daily reporting and compliance tracking for geotechnical activities.

Geotechnical Engineer

• 8/6 Residential roster | 12 hour Days | 25-minute commute from town to site

We have a rewarding Geotechnical Engineerposition awaiting you at our world class high-performing Underground Technical Services team at Northern Star Resources South Kalgoorlie Operations. This role operates on aresidential 8/6 roster working 12-hour shifts.

Reporting to the Senior Underground Geotechnical Engineer, the primary role is for the safe management and delivery of all Geotechnical requirements within the Geotechnical Engineering team.

• Provide expert geotechnical advice for underground mining areas, ensuring safe and effective ground support systems.
• Initiate and deliver geotechnical improvement projects to enhance mine productivity and profitability.
• Continuously improve geotechnical processes for the Mining Department.
• Collaborate with technical teams to design mine levels and stope extraction plans, including rock stress modelling, closure monitoring and stability analysis.
• Utilise lidar technology to monitor ground conditions and develop effective ground support strategies.
• Oversee QA/QC for ground support installation, underground scaling, rehabilitation plans, and rock bolt testing.
• Maintain daily reporting and compliance tracking for geotechnical activities.
• Review and update the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP).
• Support the development of geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring systems.

Where you’ll add value:

Experience:

• Underground geotechnical experience in a mechanised hard-rock underground mine.

• Experience with mine design software – Deswik.
• Experience with seismic monitoring systems – IMS
• Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
• Good communication skills.
• Awareness of the Work Health & Safety Act and Regulations (desirable).

Qualifications:

• Tertiary Qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Current “C” Class Western Australian Driver’s Licence (Manual).
• St John’s Senior First Aid certificate (desirable).
