Job summary

Rio Tinto is seeking a Principal Geoscientist to lead the geology function for the Winu copper-gold project in Western Australia. This senior role shapes strategy, guides resource growth and informs long-term mine development decisions.

You will blend technical excellence with people leadership, coordinating across exploration, resource development and project teams. The role is Perth-based with a Monday-to-Friday schedule, flexible work arrangements and periodic site travel to support project

Qualifications

• Safety of yourself and your team is a priority.
• Mine geology expertise, ideally copper and/or gold operations.
• Experience in geological mapping, drill-hole planning, logging, geological modelling and resource estimation.
• Advanced knowledge of resource geology and Mineral Resource reporting.
• Ability to plan complex technical programs, budgets, schedules, and align with stakeholders.
• Tertiary qualification in Geology or related Geoscience discipline.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop and empower a diverse geoscience team with coaching and mentorship.
• Develop and review the Winu Orebody Knowledge strategy to support growth.
• Oversee geological, geochemical and geostructural data management and QC.
• Lead drill-hole planning and ensure alignment with resource and structural objectives.
• Provide oversight of geological/resource modelling and external Mineral Resource reporting.
• Coordinate work programs, deliverables, budgets and timelines across teams.
• Build stakeholder relationships to influence technical decisions across the project.
• Apply innovative approaches to solve complex geological challenges.
