Job summary

Thiess is seeking a Senior Geologist to support mining operations across Central Queensland's Bowen Basin. You will provide geological and technical support, interpret data, and collaborate with Technical Services, Mining and CHPP teams to achieve coal quality targets safely and efficiently.

You will contribute to coal reconciliation, modelling, reporting and geotechnical activities while building stakeholder relationships across the operation.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Geology or equivalent.
• Significant experience in an open-cut mining environment.
• Strong understanding of geological structures, modelling and data interpretation.
• Experience with geological modelling software such as Vulcan or similar.

Responsibilities

• Provide geological and technical support to mining operations.
• Monitor and optimise coal quality, recovery and reconciliation processes.
• Ensure geological structures are accurately interpreted to support planning and extraction activities.
• Verify geological data and surveyed structural information.
• Support geotechnical functions with accurate geological information.
• Assist with end of month reporting and coal reconciliation activities.
• Work with Mining, CHPP and Technical Services teams to achieve operational outcomes.
• Promote a strong safety culture and maintain site compliance.
