Job summary

Tassal Operations in Proserpine, Queensland, is seeking an experienced Senior Fitter to join our Maintenance team. You will diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and plan maintenance activities across a diverse fleet of farm equipment, ensuring safe and reliable operation.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will work hands-on in the workshop and field, supporting continuous improvement and keeping equipment uptime high while contributing to a safe, productive on-site culture.

Qualifications

• Trade qualified as Diesel Fitter, Fitter and Turner, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or similar.
• Extensive experience with heavy machinery and mobile plant.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Safe work practices and continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out maintenance and repairs across the farm's fleet, plant and equipment.
• Diagnosing complex faults and troubleshooting to minimise downtime.
• Maintaining heavy machinery including dozers, excavators and loaders.
• Servicing pumps, generators, aerators and other farm infrastructure.
• Planning maintenance activities with the Maintenance Manager.
• Completing work orders and maintenance documentation accurately.

Job description

We're looking for an experienced Senior Fitter to join our Maintenance team at Tassal's Proserpine Prawn Farm.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you'll be one of the key technical experts on site, helping to keep our fleet, plant and equipment operating safely and reliably. This is a hands-on role where you'll spend time in the workshop and out in the field diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, planning maintenance activities and supporting the ongoing reliability of critical farm equipment.

You'll work across a diverse range of machinery and equipment, from Caterpillar dozers, loaders and excavators through to pumps, generators, vehicles and other essential farm infrastructure. With your experience, you'll be relied upon to tackle complex mechanical issues, share your knowledge with the team and help drive continuous improvement across the maintenance function.

Working aMonday to Friday roster, you'll enjoy the stability of a consistent work week while living and working in one of Australia's most beautiful regions.

What You'll Be Doing

• Carrying out maintenance and repairs across the farm's fleet, plant and equipment
• Diagnosing complex faults and troubleshooting mechanical issues to minimise downtime
• Maintaining heavy machinery including Caterpillar dozers, excavators and loaders
• Servicing pumps, generators, aerators and other farm infrastructure
• Supporting the maintenance team with technical expertise and problem solving
• Working with the Maintenance Manager to plan and prioritise maintenance activities
• Identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance processes
• Ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with company standards
• Participating in the on-call roster as required
• Completing work orders and maintenance documentation accurately

About You

• Trade qualified Diesel Fitter, Fitter and Turner, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or similar
• Extensive experience working with heavy machinery and mobile plant
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Confident tackling complex mechanical problems independently
• Practical, hands‑on and solutions focused
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
• Committed to safe work practices and continuous improvement
• Current driver's licence
• Full working rights in Australia
