Job summary

Motion Recruitment's client, an established Australian design consultancy, seeks a Senior Firmware Architect to define firmware architectures for complex embedded systems. You will work with hardware, FPGA and systems engineers to create robust, scalable solutions from requirements through verification.

The role offers technical leadership across projects, with ownership of architectural direction and mentorship of engineers.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing firmware architectures for complex embedded systems.
• Strong C/C++ programming skills in embedded contexts.
• Experience with Embedded Linux or RTOS environments.
• Hands-on experience with microcontrollers/SoCs and peripherals.
• Ability to translate requirements into robust firmware specifications.
• Demonstrated technical leadership and client-facing communication.
• Experience in design consultancy or engineering services is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Define firmware architecture for complex embedded systems.
• Translate system requirements into firmware solutions.
• Develop firmware design specifications and docs.
• Collaborate with hardware, FPGA and systems teams.
• Provide technical leadership across the development lifecycle.
• Make architectural decisions on interfaces and performance.
• Support development, integration, testing and verification.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Engage with customers to clarify requirements.
• Mentor engineers and promote best practices.
