Job summary

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service is seeking a Senior Fire Management Officer to lead the delivery of bushfire mitigation programs across the ACT estate. You will oversee fire trail construction and maintenance, roading and access infrastructure projects, and cultural and ecological burning initiatives, with contractor supervision and emergency preparedness responsibilities.

This role combines technical fire management with stakeholder engagement and incident management to improve community

Qualifications

  • Experience and qualifications in an AIIMS role.
  • Eligibility: WWVP registration prior to commencing.
  • Must be able to undertake arduous fire task fitness assessment.
  • Able to wear a uniform and work a roster including weekends/holidays.
  • Current manual driver’s licence.

Job description

Details: Help protect and enhance the ACT’s natural landscapes as a Senior Fire Management Officer with the ACT Parks and Conservation Service. This specialist role leads the delivery of bushfire mitigation programs, including fire trail construction and maintenance, roading and access infrastructure projects, cultural and ecological burning initiatives, contractor supervision, and emergency preparedness activities across the ACT estate.

Working in a dynamic and rewarding environment, you will combine technical expertise in fire management, roading and land management with project delivery, stakeholder engagement and incident management responsibilities. Eligibility/Other requirements:

  • Experience and qualifications in an AIIMS (Australasian Inter-Service Incident Management System) role.

Mandatory

  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to -Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
  • Be currently able and prepared to undertake and maintain the Arduous level of the national fire fighting task based assessment (fire fitness)
  • Be prepared to wear a uniform and work a shift roster, weekends, public holidays or evening shifts at any PCS worksite on an ‘as needs’ basis
  • Possess a current manual driver’s licence

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately until January 2027 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months.

A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.

Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.
