Job summary

Mulligans Flat Sanctuary Manager role leads the management and development of Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary, including Mulligans Flat and Goorooyarroo Nature Reserves, a 1,300-hectare predator-free sanctuary, important for conservation, research and community engagement.

You will oversee operational planning, conservation programs, visitor engagement, staff and volunteers, and partnerships to support ecological restoration projects within the ACT public service framework.

Qualifications

Mulligans Flat Sanctuary Manager
Full-time Temporary with a Possibility of Permanency

Details: Are you an experienced environmental leader passionate about conservation, research, and community engagement?

We are seeking a Sanctuary Manager to lead the management and future development of the internationally recognised Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary, including the Mulligans Flat and Goorooyarroo Nature Reserves, associated environmental offset areas, and a unique 1,300-hectare predator-free sanctuary.

Working within the thriving nature, flourishing culture strategy, you will lead operational planning, conservation programs, visitor engagement initiatives, staff and volunteer teams, and key partnerships that support one of Australia's most significant ecological restoration projects.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:

Mandatory:

  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
  • Possess a manual driver’ license.
  • Experience and or willingness to undertake incident management duties including participation in fire standby, suppression and training.

Highly Desirable:

  • A tertiary degree in environment or natural resource management with diversified experience of 8+ years AND/OR equivalent associated natural resource management/environmental science qualifications (e.g. cert IV, associate diploma) AND/OR extensive experience in a relevant field.
  • This position may require a pre-employment medical.

Note: This is a temporary position available 2 November 2026 until 31 October 2027 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.

Applicants should note that a Joint Selection Committee (JSC) established in accordance with the collective/enterprise agreement provisions will assess all applications for this position.

Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.

Where an offer of employment is for a fixed-term period, any related temporary contracts within the Territory will be issued in compliance with the requirements and applicable exceptions outlined in the Fair Work Act.
