Job summary

Hastings Deering (Australia) Ltd in Archerfield, Brisbane, is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant on a 12-month fixed-term contract. You’ll lead fixed asset accounting, manage RFC CAPEX processes, and partner with operations to govern capital expenditure reporting and asset lifecycle management.

You’ll bring CA or CPA qualifications, strong knowledge of fixed assets and capital expenditure principles, and a proven ability to drive controls and reporting across the capital portfolio.

Qualifications

• Experience in fixed asset accounting, capital expenditure management, financial reporting, or a similar accounting role.
• Strong understanding of capitalisation principles, fixed asset accounting, depreciation, disposals, and asset lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Manage the fixed asset accounting process, including asset transactions, maintenance, reporting, and governance.
• Manage the RFC (Request for CAPEX) process, including review of capital expenditure requests and purchase orders.
• Partner with stakeholders to support CAPEX planning, approvals, reporting, and governance.
• Ensure CAPEX is recorded, capitalised, and reported per accounting standards and policies.
• Perform monthly fixed asset reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Monitor fixed asset movements, capital projects, and asset-related performance.
• Provide financial advice on capital investments and asset management.
• Support audit requirements related to fixed assets and CAPEX.
• Maintain internal controls across CAPEX and fixed asset processes.
• Identify opportunities to improve CAPEX management, reporting, processes, and controls.

We are currently seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join our team based in Archerfield, on a 12-month fixed term contract.

This is an exciting opportunity for an accounting professional with strong experience in capital expenditure (CAPEX), fixed asset accounting, and financial governance.

Working as part of a collaborative Finance team, you will play a key role in Hastings Deering’s fixed asset and CAPEX processes, partnering with stakeholders across the business to support decisions, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and provide accurate reporting on the organisation’s capital portfolio.

This role offers the opportunity to work closely with operational and business leaders, providing visibility across major capital projects, asset investments, and financial controls that support business growth.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Senior Financial Accountant , you will -

• Manage the fixed asset accounting process, including asset transactions, maintenance, reporting, and governance.
• Manage the Request for CAPEX (RFC) process, including the review of capital expenditure requests and associated purchase orders.
• Partner with operational and functional stakeholders to support CAPEX planning, approvals, reporting, and governance.
• Ensure capital expenditure is accurately recorded, capitalised, and reported in accordance with accounting standards and company policies.
• Perform monthly fixed asset reconciliations, review transactions, and investigate unusual items and variances.
• Monitor and report on fixed asset movements, capital projects, and asset-related financial performance.
• Provide financial advice and support on capital investment decisions and asset management activities.
• Support audit requirements related to fixed assets and capital expenditure activities.
• Maintain strong internal controls and governance frameworks across CAPEX and fixed asset processes.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve CAPEX management, reporting, processes, and controls.

What You’ll Bring:

• CA or CPA qualification.
• Experience in fixed asset accounting, capital expenditure management, financial reporting, or a similar accounting role.
• Strong understanding of capitalisation principles, fixed asset accounting, depreciation, disposals, and asset lifecycle management.
• Experience managing CAPEX approval processes, governance, and reporting.
• Sound knowledge of accounting standards and internal control frameworks relating to capital expenditure and fixed assets.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven ability to build strong relationships and partner with stakeholders across the business.
• Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and drive outcomes in a collaborative team environment.
