Job summary

Morgan McKinley is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant in Sydney for a 12-month contract to lead external and head office reporting. The role requires strong accounting fundamentals, data analysis and collaboration with risk, treasury, data and technology teams to improve reporting quality.

You will own statutory and regulatory reporting, support annual statements and board disclosures, and drive automation using SQL, Power BI, Power Query and Python while maintaining robust controls.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Actuarial Studies, Mathematics, Data Analytics or related discipline.
• CA, CPA, or actuarial qualification completed or in progress.
• Approximately 3-5 years of relevant experience in banking, financial services or a Big Four firm.
• Experience in financial reporting, statutory reporting or regulatory reporting.
• Sound understanding of accounting standards, financial reporting principles and internal controls.
• Advanced Excel and strong SQL capabilities.
• Experience with Power Query and Power BI; Python or other automation tools is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to communicate findings clearly.
• Excellent stakeholder management and written and verbal communication skills.
• Proactive mindset and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Deliver head office reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with standards.
• Support annual financial statements, Board reporting and disclosures.
• Investigate complex accounting matters and contribute to position papers and new standards.
• Liaise with auditors and maintain robust audit trails.
• Support regulatory reporting and ensure compliance with prudential requirements.
• Collaborate to improve data quality and reporting across Finance.
• Identify opportunities to automate reporting using SQL, Power BI, Power Query and Python.
