Job description

ASC is Australia’s submarine company. We built the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, sustain them, and are now delivering their Life of Type Extension to increase the boats’ service lives. We have also been selected by the Australian Government to sustain and jointly build the nation’s nuclear-powered submarines – the largest and most complex industrial undertaking in Australia’s history.

Our work is interesting and meaningful, contributing directly to Australia’s national security. We offer rewarding roles that provide the opportunity to grow your career, and the flexibility to balance life and work. A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.

About the Opportunity

As a Senior Estimator, you will play a critical role in supporting complex sustainment programs by developing robust, accurate, and commercially sound cost estimates for both customer submissions and internal business decision-making. Working closely with a range of stakeholders, you will analyse scope requirements, establish appropriate estimating methodologies, and deliver detailed pricing solutions that align with project and contractual objectives.

This role requires a highly analytical professional with strong estimating expertise, advanced Excel skills, and the ability to apply critical thinking to complex challenges. You will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, enhance estimating processes and systems, and ensure estimates are developed with a high level of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail.

This is a full-time opportunity based at our Henderson site in WA.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of cost estimates from initiation through to final submission, including estimate kick-off meetings and stakeholder engagement.
  • Analyse work scope requirements and develop appropriate Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) to support estimate development.
  • Prepare accurate and defensible estimates using a range of techniques, including historical data, parametric analysis, supplier/subcontractor quotations, and stakeholder inputs.
  • Identify estimate risks and support contingency development through risk analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Apply relevant financial and commercial factors to develop comprehensive pricing submissions.
  • Develop and maintain estimates within ProPricer and other estimating systems as required.
  • Capture and document estimate assumptions, conditions, exclusions, and supporting rationale throughout the estimating process.
  • Prepare high-quality estimate deliverables and supporting documentation for customer and internal review.
About you
  • Degree or diploma qualified in Engineering, Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in estimating, cost modelling, or a similar commercial role.
  • Advanced estimating knowledge with strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience using estimating systems such as ProPricer (highly regarded).
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • A proactive, resilient, and results-driven approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and a collaborative team-oriented mindset.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching team members to support capability development and knowledge sharing across the team

  • Subsidised childcare to ease the financial pressure on your family.
  • Health and wellbeing initiatives so you can perform at your best at work.
  • Professional development opportunities to advance your career.
  • A diverse and supportive environment where you can thrive.
