Job summary

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development NSW – Sydney CBD NSW invites applications for a Senior Environmental Officer. The role oversees planning, design, estimation, and delivery of civil/environmental construction projects across multiple NSW regions.

You will build relationships with clients, manage riverine and erosion projects, and ensure compliance with IMS/QHSE standards. A NSW driver’s license and willingness to travel across NSW are essential.

• Departmental Officer Grade 7/8 – salary from $116,981 per annum (FTE) plus super and leave loading

About the Role

The Senior Environmental Officer undertakes a variety of project management activities, overseeing the planning, design, estimating and delivery of civil/environmental construction projects for a range of industry clients and stakeholders. The role will develop relationships with key clients and oversee the delivery of projects in the following discipline:

• Riverine & Riparian rehabilitation projects
• Erosion works and land rehabilitation projects
• Unsealed tracks and trails establishment and maintenance

Key accountabilities

• Provide a range of project management and support services including reports and briefs, coordinating resources, implementing and reviewing project plans and delivering projects to ensure outcomes are achieved on time, within budget and to a high quality.
• Negotiating with clients technical and financial aspects of projects and deliver practical solutions that promote the Soil Conservation service as leaders in the natural resource industry.
• Take steps to implement WHS, Environmental and quality management practices to ensure projects are delivered in line with Soil Conservation Service QHSE and Integrated Management Systems (IMS).
• Prepare and review contracts and tender documentation to build and deliver a pipeline of work.
• Prepare detail technical reports and project plans following specifications and drawings prepared in house or by 3rd parties.
• Knowledge of project management methodology and / or with an understanding of environmental principles, erosion and sediment control, and legislation
• Experience in environmental or construction project and site management

About You

Our ideal candidate will hold a relevant qualification in construction management, engineering or science (not essential), with a passion for the environment and demonstrated experience in environmental / civil construction management.

You’ll also have a high level of computer literacy, excellent verbal and written communication skills and understanding of relevant environmental principles and legislation.

A current NSW drivers licence combined with the willingness and ability to travel across NSW (including overnight stays) is essential. Base location is flexible within the Greater Sydney Central West region.
