Job summary

SLR Consulting is seeking an Environmental Consultant to join the Mackay office. You will work within the Environmental Approvals, Management & Closure team on regulatory and site projects across the Mackay region, collaborating with national teams and clients.

A degree in Environmental Science or related field and a minimum of three years in environmental consulting are required. Regulatory knowledge of QLD legislation, strong written and verbal communication, and capability to manage

Qualifications

• Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years’ experience in Environmental Science, preferably in Consulting.
• Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary projects.
• Working knowledge of QLD environmental legislation and policies.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and manage relationships with clients and internal teams.
• Mine rehabilitation and closure planning.
• Plans of Operations and progressive rehabilitation and closure planning.
• Environmental management and ESG responsibilities.
• Mining approvals and related regulatory advice.
• Lead multidisciplinary project delivery and ensure high‑quality reporting.
• Occasional field travel for studies and investigations.

Articulate, motivated and reliable, you will have 3+ years’ experience in Environmental Consulting. Regulatory and/or mining experience will be viewed favourably but is not required, with the right attitude and aptitude we will provide you with training and guidance.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing, facilitating, and enhancing effective relationships with our clients and internal SLR team members
• Mine Rehabilitation and Closure Plans
• Plans of Operations/Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure Plans
• Environment management & ESG
• Mining approvals
• Providing advice regarding best practice environmental impact assessment and management principles to clients and internal SLR team members
• Working within and leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects across a range of sectors
• Delivering clear and precise, high quality reports
• Occasional travel to undertake field studies

Experience

To be successful in this role, you will be a positive and engaging character with a great sense of humour as well as have:

• A degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field
• 3 years + experience in Environmental Science, preferably in Consulting.
• Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary projects.
• Working knowledge of QLD environmental legislation and policies, standards, and guidelines
• Experience in the mining, infrastructure, power and/or agribusiness sectors is highly valued but not a prerequisite.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with Consulting software and intermediate-advanced excel skills.
• Australian Citizenship or rights to work in Australia.
