Job summary

SMEC on the Sunshine Coast is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer – Water Infrastructure to lead technical delivery, project management and client engagement for water projects across Australia. You will help drive commercial and technical success while being supported by experienced leaders in a consultancy setting.

The role requires delivering designs for water and wastewater schemes, leading pipelines, pump stations, intakes and water retaining structures, and collaborating with multidisciplinary

Qualifications

• The candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and ideally be a registered Professional Engineer (RPEQ) or able to obtain registration.
• Experience in water infrastructure detailed design and delivery in a consultancy environment is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to manage multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Deliver technical design for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
• Lead and contribute to the design of pipelines, pump stations, intakes, and water retaining structures.
• Apply project management principles to meet program, budget, and quality requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated project outcomes.
• Provide technical input into bids and proposals and maintain client relationships.
• Ensure designs meet relevant standards, client requirements, and SMEC quality expectations.

The Opportunity

In this role, you’ll play a key part in the technical delivery, project management, and client engagement of water infrastructure projects locally and nationally.

You’ll be supported by experienced leaders while having the autonomy to take ownership of your projects and help drive commercial and technical success.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver technical design for water and wastewater infrastructure projects
• Lead and contribute to the design of:
  • Pipelines
  • Pump stations
  • Intakes
  • Water retaining structures
• Apply project management principles to meet program, budget, and quality requirements
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated project outcomes
• Provide technical input into bids and proposals
• Maintain strong client relationships and contribute to winning repeat work
• Ensure designs meet relevant standards, client requirements, and SMEC quality expectations

About You

You are an experienced water infrastructure engineer who enjoys both technical delivery and client interaction, and you’re motivated to continue growing your career within a consultancy environment.

You Will Ideally Have

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or similar)
• RPEQ, or ability to obtain
• 5–10 years’ experience in an engineering consultancy
• Strong experience in water infrastructure detailed design
• Proven ability to deliver projects and manage multiple stakeholders
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
