Job summary

McCabes Lawyers in Sydney seeks a Senior Associate in Employment, Workplace Relations and Safety, Commercial to join a dynamic team. The role involves advising HR and in-house clients on day-to-day employment matters, guiding claims, and supporting complex workplace initiatives.

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor of Laws with NSW practising certificate and demonstrate a broad range of general employment and IR experience, coupled with strong analytical and client-facing skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws or equivalent and NSW practising certificate.
• Demonstrated experience across general employment and IR matters.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical, commercial approach.
• Confidence to deal with clients and collaborate with other practice groups.
• High initiative, dedication and organisational ability with a strong client and commercial focus.
• Ability to manage a busy workload and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong, plain language communication style.

Responsibilities

• Provide day to day employment law guidance to HR and in-house legal clients.
• Advise on and represent clients in a variety of employment related claims, including unfair dismissal, adverse action, bullying, discrimination, sexual harassment, breach of contract and underpayment of wages.
• Deal with industrial relations issues, including awards and enterprise bargaining.
• Advise on WHS and manage incidents.
• Review and draft contracts, policies, and settlement deeds.
• Support corporate team on people aspects of mergers and acquisitions.
• Undertake workplace investigations; and
• Deliver training to clients on HR related topics.
