Job summary

Mater Newstead is seeking a Senior Employee Relations Consultant to partner with leaders across the organisation to navigate complex employee relations matters and provide expert advice. The role focuses on solving people challenges, shaping workplace strategies and driving meaningful outcomes.

We're looking for a Senior Employee Relations Consultant to join our high-performing Human Resources team at Mater Newstead. In this pivotal role, you'll partner with leaders across the organisation to navigate complex employee relations matters, provide expert advice, and help shape workplace strategies that drive meaningful outcomes

Salary range: $124,394 - $133,248 per hourplus superannuationandaccess to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900+access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

As a senior member of the Employee Relations team, you'll provide specialist guidance on a broad range of workplace relations matters while working closely with HR Business Partners and operational leaders. You'll be at the forefront of managing sensitive and complex people issues, helping leaders build capability and confidence in managing their teams.

• Providing expert advice on employee and industrial relations matters
• Managing complex cases including performance, grievances, disciplinary matters, complaints, and ill or injured worker cases
• Coaching and supporting leaders through challenging people situations
• Conducting and supporting workplace investigations and recommending practical solutions
• Interpreting awards, enterprise agreements, legislation, and organisational policies
• Developing and delivering ER training programs
• Contributing to HR projects, policy development, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Building strong relationships across the organisation as a trusted advisor and business partner

About you

You're a confident and credible HR professional who combines technical expertise with exceptional relationship-building skills. You enjoy balancing strategy with hands‑on case management and can confidently influence stakeholders at all levels.

You'll bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Extensive experience managing complex employee relations matters
• Strong knowledge of employment legislation, awards, industrial agreements, and ER frameworks
• Exceptional communication, coaching, influencing, and negotiation skills
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capability
• Strong report writing, research, and stakeholder management skills
• The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment
• Experience working within a large, complex organisation will be highly regarded
