Job summary

City Fertility Centre in Melbourne seeks a Senior Embryologist to lead and deliver advanced embryology and laboratory services, directly impacting patient outcomes. This role requires guiding a multidisciplinary team to uphold best‑practice lab processes, innovation and compassionate patient care.

You will collaborate with clinicians and scientists, manage donor/surrogacy lab aspects, and drive continuous improvement across the IVF laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Biomedical Science or equivalent, with minimum six years as Clinical Embryologist in human IVF lab.
• Advanced competency in semen prep/analysis, ICSI, embryo culture, grading, cryopreservation, vitrification, thawing, biopsy and transfer.
• Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop team members through coaching, onboarding and training.
• Strong understanding of ART, IVF cycle management, lab accreditation requirements, quality systems and legislation.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving and organizational skills; commitment to patient‑centred care and team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced embryology and andrology procedures with high quality and safety.
• Coordinate daily laboratory workflows to support efficient treatment delivery.
• Identify, retrieve and assess oocytes; monitor embryo development during cycles.
• Conduct embryo culture, grading, cryopreservation, vitrification, thawing and transfer procedures.
• Oversee witnessing, quality records and traceability; ensure compliance.
• Coordinate complex procedures including Pre‑implantation Genetic Testing (PGT).
• Mentor Embryologists, Trainee Embryologists and Laboratory Assistants.
• Support donor and surrogacy program lab activities in line with standards.
• Monitor equipment performance and consumables inventory; maintain documentation.
• Support accreditation activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
