Job summary

Edison Smart seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design across major data centre developments in Australia. You will own electrical decisions from concept through commissioning, working with consultants, contractors and internal teams to deliver resilient, high-availability power infrastructure.

The role requires extensive data centre experience, strong HV/MV/LV expertise and a proven track record on large-scale, critical facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Significant electrical engineering design experience, ideally within data centres or mission-critical infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of HV/MV/LV electrical systems and power distribution.
• Experience producing, reviewing or managing electrical designs and documentation.
• Experience working with engineering consultants and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Strong knowledge of relevant electrical standards, codes and industry practices.
• Experience across complex capital projects from design through to construction and commissioning with strong problem-solving and stakeholder management.
• Ability to take ownership of technical decisions in a client-side environment.
• Data centre experience, particularly hyperscale or colocation facilities.
• Experience with medium/high-voltage distribution systems.
• Experience with substations, transformers, generators, UPS and critical power systems.
• Experience with electrical protection and coordination studies.
• Exposure to electrical design software and engineering calculation packages.
• Experience managing or reviewing the work of external design consultants.
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent accreditation.
• Experience with large-scale developments involving significant electrical capacity.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage electrical engineering activities across major data centre developments.

• Provide technical leadership across electrical systems including substations, transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS, protection, distribution and associated infrastructure.
• Review electrical design documentation, calculations, specifications, drawings and technical submissions.
• Work closely with external engineering consultants, contractors, equipment suppliers and internal project teams.
• Ensure designs meet project requirements, applicable standards, reliability objectives and operational requirements.
• Identify design risks, technical issues and opportunities for optimisation throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide technical input into concept, detailed design and design development stages.
• Support procurement and technical evaluation of electrical equipment and systems.
• Attend design reviews, technical workshops and project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide engineering support during construction, testing and commissioning.
• Review and resolve technical RFIs, design changes and site issues.
• Ensure electrical designs support the required data centre availability, resilience and maintainability standards.
• Contribute to standardisation and continuous improvement of electrical engineering and design practices across the organisation.

Senior Electrical Engineer - Data Centre Infrastructure

Overview

A major global colocation data centre provider is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join its growing technical and delivery team.

This is a key engineering position supporting the development and delivery of large-scale, mission-critical data centre facilities. The ideal candidate will come from a strong electrical design engineering background, ideally within data centres, critical infrastructure, industrial facilities, or other complex electrical environments.

The role will suit an engineer who is comfortable working across the full design lifecycle and wants to move into a major client-side / colocation environment, taking ownership of electrical engineering decisions from concept and design through to construction and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

The strongest candidates will be design-led electrical engineers rather than purely project or construction-focused engineers.

You should have a strong technical foundation and be comfortable challenging designs, reviewing consultant deliverables and making engineering decisions. Experience working for an electrical engineering consultancy, EPC, contractor or similar design environment would be highly relevant, particularly where you have progressed into a senior or lead engineering position.
