Job description

At AFL, we design and manufacture the fibre optic infrastructure behind some of the world’s most advanced data centres and critical networks. As AI, cloud computing and next-generation connectivity transform the way the world operates, our technology helps keep its data moving. We’re not watching the digitally connected economy emerge - we’re helping build it.

But building the infrastructure of the future requires more than great technology. It requires safe, sustainable and high-performing operations.

That’s where you come in.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for an experienced Senior EHSQ Advisor to take ownership of Environment, Health, Safety and Quality at our largest Australian facility in Kilsyth.

This isn’t a role where you’ll simply maintain what is already in place. There is plenty of meaningful and exciting work ahead: strengthening safety culture, improving systems, embedding critical controls, lifting quality and assurance, and delivering practical improvements across a busy manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.

You’ll have the autonomy to shape the site’s EHSQ approach, influence how work gets done and turn strategy into visible, sustainable results. With the support of our National EHSQ Manager, you’ll partner directly with operational leaders and employees to build stronger systems, solve real problems and create a safer, more proactive workplace.

It’s a genuine opportunity to make the role your own, build something lasting and see the impact of your work every day.

What You’ll Do

Take ownership of day-to-day EHSQ leadership across our Kilsyth manufacturing, warehouse and office operations.

Partner with leaders and employees to strengthen safety culture, accountability and proactive risk management.

Identify and deliver practical site improvements across plant and machine safety, contractor management, manual handling, traffic management, hazardous substances and operational risk.

Lead incident investigations, injury management, return-to-work activity and preventative safety initiatives.

Drive the site’s implementation and ongoing compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

Lead audits, inspections, assurance activities and corrective actions that create lasting improvement.

Use data, trends and frontline insights to prioritise initiatives and influence operational projects and changes from the outset

About You

You’re an experienced EHSQ professional who is equally comfortable on the floor, in a leadership discussion or working through the detail of an investigation, audit or improvement plan.

You bring sound technical knowledge, but your real strength is turning that knowledge into practical action. You can challenge constructively, build trust with operational teams and maintain momentum when there are multiple priorities competing for attention.

You’ll also bring:

A tertiary qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Workplace Health and Safety, Environmental Management or a related discipline.

At least five years’ experience in health, safety and environment roles.

Demonstrated experience in manufacturing, warehousing, industrial or similarly complex operational environments.

Experience managing WorkCover claims and return-to-work programs.

Strong capability in incident investigation, risk assessment and workplace auditing.

Sound knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation and broader Australian WHS requirements.

A practical, visible and collaborative approach to safety leadership.

Experience with integrated management systems, quality assurance, environmental management or ISO auditing will be highly regarded.

Why AFL?

This is a chance to join a global technology and manufacturing business at an exciting point in its journey. We’re a business that is enabling the future of connectivity, including fibre infrastructure supporting data centres, telecommunications and critical networks.

You’ll have real ownership of EHSQ at our largest and most complex Australian facility, with the autonomy to shape the role and influence the site’s future direction. With a significant improvement agenda ahead, there’s plenty of meaningful work to lead and the opportunity to make a visible impact across our people and operations. This is a role you can truly make your own, leaving your mark by building stronger systems, capability and culture for the future.
