Job summary

Lismore City Council is seeking a Senior Drainage Engineer to lead the planning, prioritisation and delivery of urban stormwater programs. You will influence long-term infrastructure planning, support sustainable growth and protect community assets across the region.

The role focuses on asset management, USMP alignment, catchment modelling and grant management, with opportunities for strategic financial oversight and risk management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Professional membership of Engineers Australia or Australian Water Association.
• General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
• Current Class C Drivers Licence.

Responsibilities

• Asset Management: Implement best practices to optimize lifecycle and performance of stormwater assets.
• Program Development: Develop and maintain a forward works program for urban stormwater drainage.
• USMP Implementation: Progress actions in the revised USMP and coordinate planning.
• Catchment Modelling: Extend and refine the stormwater catchment model for planning.
• Project Prioritisation: Develop robust method to prioritise stormwater projects.
• Grant Management: Identify and pursue funding sources; manage grants compliance.
• Financial Oversight: Lead budgets and provide financial insights to senior leadership.
• Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure planning activities comply with legislation and mitigate risks.

About this Position:

Play a key role in shaping the future of our community's stormwater and drainage infrastructure. As the Senior Drainage Engineer, you will lead the planning, prioritisation and delivery of critical drainage and urban stormwater programs that support sustainable growth, protect community assets and enhance service outcomes. What we trust you to deliver:

• Asset Management: Implement best practices to optimise the lifecycle and performance of stormwater infrastructure assets. Provide input into the continuous improvement of asset management plans and systems, including data collection and validation of stormwater assets.
• Program Development: Develop and maintain a forward works program for urban stormwater drainage, incorporating asset management principles, maintenance schedules, and strategic priorities. Ensure alignment with Council’s Urban Stormwater Management Plan (USMP), strategic objectives, and community needs.
• USMP Implementation: Progress structural and non-structural actions outlined in the revised USMP. Progress the delivery of an updated USMP by coordinating planning, stakeholder input, and integration of new data and modelling.
• Catchment Modelling: Extend and refine the stormwater catchment model to support evidence-based planning and prioritisation of infrastructure projects.
• Project Prioritisation: Develop and apply a robust methodology for prioritising stormwater-related projects, balancing risk, cost-effectiveness, and community impact.
• Grant Management: Identify and pursue additional funding sources, including grants. Manage the administration, reporting, and compliance requirements for grant-funded projects.
• Financial Oversight: Lead the strategic management of budgets by aligning financial plans with departmental goals, analysing performance, and implementing corrective actions. Collaborate with senior leadership to provide financial insights and recommendations that support informed decision-making and long-term sustainability.
• Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure all planning activities comply with relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and guidelines; and identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with planning and asset management activities.

What you will need to be successful:

• Relevant bachelors degree in Engineering (Civil) or a related field and/or relevant experience.
• Professional membership of an engineering or relevant industry organisation e.g. Engineers Australia, Australian Water Association.
• General Construction Induction Card (White Card).
• Current Class C Drivers Licence.

Full Time: 70 hours per fortnight

Salary: From $112,903 to $129,838 per annum + 3.5% Civil Liability Allowance + superannuation.
