Job summary

Simonds Homes is seeking a Senior Draftsperson to deliver accurate, high-quality drawings for Knockdown Rebuild and dual occupancy projects from our Docklands Head Office. You will collaborate across Sales, Estimating, Operations and Construction to move designs from concept through to construction.

Applicants should have at least four years of drafting experience in residential construction, with strong AutoCAD skills and a building design qualification.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years' drafting experience in construction or related industry.

• Diploma or degree in Building Design, Architectural Drafting or related discipline.
• Experience with Town Planning documentation, planning schemes (ResCode) and permit conditions.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a full-time opportunity based out of our new Docklands Head Office. As a Senior Draftsperson within our Knockdown Rebuild (KDR) department, you will be responsible for delivering accurate, high-quality project drawings that meet customer requirements, company standards and all relevant authority conditions, regulations and building codes.

Working across a diverse range of KDR and dual occupancy projects, you’ll play an important role in bringing individual home designs to life. You’ll work closely with our Sales, Estimating, Operations and Construction teams to ensure projects progress smoothly from initial design through to construction.

There are three key components to this role:

• Prepare accurate and detailed working drawings in line with customer requirements, project specifications and agreed production timeframes.
• Interpret and apply relevant planning requirements, Building Codes, regulations and authority conditions across complex KDR sites.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to provide practical drafting solutions and ensure a high level of quality and accuracy throughout the design and documentation process.

Some key accountabilities of the role include:

• Prepare accurate architectural and working drawings for KDR and dual occupancy projects.
• Prepare and update Town Planning documentation, applying relevant planning scheme requirements, ResCode provisions and permit conditions, and liaising with internal and external planning consultants to resolve planning requirements and RFIs.
• Identify and apply relevant Building Codes, Building Regulations and authority requirements.
• Ensure drawings are completed accurately and within agreed production timeframes.
• Review documentation to identify potential design, construction or compliance issues and provide appropriate solutions.
• Work closely with Sales, Estimating, Operations and Construction teams to ensure project requirements are clearly understood and documented.
• Assist with the resolution of technical drafting queries throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide guidance and support to other members of the drafting team, sharing knowledge and contributing to continuous improvement.
• Maintain a high level of quality control across all drawings and documentation.
• Ensure all project documentation is maintained accurately and in accordance with company processes and standards.

WHO YOU ARE

We're looking for an experienced Senior Draftsperson with strong residential construction experience and a sound understanding of the Knockdown Rebuild and/or dual occupancy sector. You will have a proven ability to manage complex projects and produce high-quality documentation within demanding timeframes.

You will have a minimum of 4 years' drafting experience within the construction or related industry, with proven experience using AutoCAD. A Diploma or degree in Building Design, Architectural Drafting or a related discipline is highly desired.

Experience working across KDR projects, with proven experience preparing Town Planning documentation and applying relevant planning scheme requirements, ResCode, permit conditions, site levels, overlays and authority requirements, will be highly regarded.

You will have strong technical knowledge and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret architectural plans, site information and technical documentation. A strong understanding of the residential construction process from pre-site through to handover is essential.

As a Senior Draftsperson, you'll also be a confident communicator who can build strong relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. You’ll be comfortable collaborating across different teams, providing technical guidance and contributing to a positive and supportive team environment.

You will have exceptional attention to detail, strong planning and organisational skills, and the ability to effectively prioritise competing deadlines. A flexible and adaptable approach, combined with a commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience, will be key to your success in this role.
