Performance Marketing Manager – Remote
Posted 3 days ago
Job Description
Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated Performance Marketing Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing and executing marketing strategies that drive revenue growth and customer acquisition. This role requires a deep understanding of digital marketing channels, data analysis, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute performance marketing strategies across various digital channels, including paid search, social media, display advertising, and email marketing.
- Analyze and optimize campaigns to maximize ROI and drive revenue growth.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including product, design, and analytics, to develop and execute marketing campaigns.
- Manage relationships with external partners, including agencies and vendors.
- Stay up‑to‑date with industry trends and best practices to ensure our marketing strategies are innovative and effective.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in performance marketing, with a proven track record of driving revenue growth and customer acquisition.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with data analysis tools, such as Google Analytics and Excel.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
- Experience managing external partners, including agencies and vendors.
Freelancer Limited is an ASX‑listed company behind some of the most recognised marketplaces on the internet:
- Freelancer.com, the world's largest freelancing and crowdsourcing platform, with 90+ million users and fourteen Webby Awards.
- Escrow.com, the global payments platform that's safeguarded over US$8 billion in transactions.
- LoadShift, Australia's largest heavy‑haulage freight marketplace, moving more freight than the distance to the moon every weekday, and 1 billion km to date.
You’ll plug into a genuinely global team, with daily contact across Sydney, Vancouver, London, Manila, San Francisco, and Bangalore, inside a flat, fast, feedback‑rich culture where the work speaks louder than the org chart.
What you'll actually do
Own performance across the funnel. Awareness through activation through retention, with a relentless focus on the numbers driving each stage. Where performance is leaking, you find it and you fix it.
Run real budgets and defend every dollar. You'll manage significant paid media spend across search (US$100k+/mo Google Ads tROAS) and social (up to US$500k+/mo across channels), and you'll be measured on outcomes, not impressions. You speak CAC, ROAS, payback, and LTV fluently, and you optimise toward them relentlessly.
Live where the audience lives. Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, X. You understand how each platform actually behaves in 2026, what "native" means on each, and how creators, short‑form video, and paid social work together. You brief, test, and scale creative that earns attention instead of buying it grudgingly.
Write copy that converts. You can go from a blank page to a headline, a hook, an ad, a landing page, and an email sequence that moves people to act. Clear beats clever. You know the difference, and you can prove it in the metrics.
Drive performance strategy across the group. You'll build and execute paid acquisition and growth strategy across Freelancer.com, Escrow.com, and LoadShift, coordinating with Sales, Product, PR, and our Partnerships program to launch campaigns that generate real pipeline.
Build the retention engine. Personalisation, lifecycle, and retention programs that keep users coming back and lift lifetime value, not just top‑of‑funnel spikes.
What we're looking for
- A track record with real budgets. You've managed larger ad budgets and delivered measurable, defensible results: growth you can point to and explain how you got there.
- Performance‑first mindset. You've been judged on CAC, ROAS, payback, and LTV, not vanity metrics, and you optimise toward them daily.
- Native social fluency. Hands‑on, advanced experience running and scaling paid and organic on Instagram, TikTok, and the wider social ecosystem, with a real grip on segmentation, audiences, and creative that performs on each platform.
- Conversion copywriting. You write persuasive, on‑brand copy across ads, landing pages, email, and long‑form content, and you know how to test and improve it.
- 5+ years in performance or digital marketing, ideally including SaaS or marketplace businesses (B2B and B2C), with hands‑on experience across multi‑channel campaigns, lead gen, and reporting.
- A data‑first operator's instinct. Google Ads, GA4, CRM, email, and campaign tooling are second nature. You learn new software fast and automate what you can.
- Self‑starter energy. You work with little direction, chase the opportunity in every problem, and stay calm under pressure.
- Team‑first attitude. You'll step out of your lane to help the team win. One team, one dream.
- Excellent English, written and verbal, with the ability to make complex ideas land simply.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Nice to have
- Experience with AI‑assisted creative, content, and campaign workflows.
- A working grasp of AEO/GEO (Answer Engine and Generative Engine Optimization) and how to get our brands surfaced and cited in AI answers (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and the like), not just ranked in classic search.
- A love for fast‑moving, high‑ownership startup environments.
- Technical curiosity: you can research a complex subject and explain it clearly, and a working understanding of APIs is a plus.
- A strong portfolio of campaigns and content you've built or led: multi‑channel campaigns, short‑form video, thought leadership, ads, landing pages, and more.
Flat hierarchy, real ownership, global reach, and products people actually use. If you want your work to matter, and to be seen, this is where it happens.
Bring the portfolio. Bring the numbers. Let's build.

About us
- We're building a new category of interactive entertainment powered by AI characters, image, video, and real‑time experiences. We’re one of the most‑visited AI products globally, serving millions of users every day.
- We work in‑person in Sydney, Australia, and hire globally.
How we work
- User‑first: We build what people want. We invest time to understand our users and focus on adding value instead of extracting value.
- High agency, high ownership: We own outcomes end-to-end. When something goes wrong, we take responsibility and fix it.
- Urgency: We prioritize ruthlessly, increase leverage, and move at an exceptional pace.
What you'll do
- You'll own and scale our performance marketing function end-to-end: strategy, execution, and the number at the bottom of the spreadsheet. You'll operate across unique DSPs and paid acquisition channels, and you'll define the playbook as you go. You live CPMs, CTRs, and CPAs, and you think in payback and incrementality. You run AI‑first, with AI tooling as your operating environment, not a side experiment.
Example projects
- Own the budget, then 10× it. Run large budgets across multiple DSPs, balancing scale, optimisation, and experimentation. You own the allocation call: where the next incremental dollar goes, and why it pays back.
- Write the expansion playbook. Launch in new regions, networks, and audiences. Find our ideal customers in every corner of the internet, and prove it was them, not noise.
- Operate the test‑and‑learn engine. Structured experiments across audiences, creative, placements, and bidding. Frameworks that compound, not one‑off tests you forget by Friday.
- Own attribution and measurement. Diagnose where the funnel leaks from first impression to paid conversion, separate signal from lag, and trust your own read of the data. You'll have full ownership to fix every stage.
What you’ll bring
- Extensive performance marketing experience across a range of paid acquisition channels, with real budget ownership behind you.
- The ability to reason causally about your spend. You're comfortable with attribution, incrementality, and the gap between blended and attributed numbers. You can tell when a metric is lying to you.
- Hands‑on comfort in the data yourself. You can pull the query, read the funnel, and build the model. You don't wait on someone else to tell you what happened.
- High attention to detail combined with a scrappy, experimental mindset.
- Creativity paired with an obsession with numbers. We love charts that go up and to the right, and you will too.
- A hunger to win. This won't be easy, and no one has done it before.
What we offer
- Top‑of‑market compensation with meaningful equity upside.
- Real ownership from day one. Work on important problems and see the impact of what you ship.
- Fast‑growing scope. As your impact grows, your responsibility and compensation should grow with it.
- A company card for food, coffee, tools, and anything that helps you do your best work.
- Daily team lunch and dinner at the office.
- An unlimited workspace budget to build your ideal setup.
- Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance for people moving to Sydney.
How we think about comp
We raise the ceiling for exceptional performers, not the floor. As your impact grows, your compensation should too.
- The listed range is cash + equity, with superannuation on top.
- We review compensation every 6 months.
- Bonuses reward past impact, and raises reflect your new level.
Our interview process
- Intro call: 15 minutes to align on the role and company.
- Founder interview: go deep on what you’ve built, how you think, and how you work.
- Role interview: 1 hour working through a practical problem relevant to the role.
- Paid work trial: spend 3 days with us in Sydney working on a real problem. We cover travel and accommodation, if needed.
- Offer: if it’s a strong fit, we move quickly.
