Job summary

Orkes is seeking a Senior Site Reliability/DevOps Engineer to lead the delivery, integration, and operation of secure, scalable platforms supporting national security systems. The role requires 5+ years of DevOps experience and expertise in CI/CD, IaC, governance and resilient architectures.

Onsite Canberra location with NV1 security clearance and cross‑functional collaboration across defence projects. You will design and automate pipelines, implement observability, and ensure secure deployment

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in DevOps/engineering roles.
• Senior-level experience delivering DevOps and CI/CD solutions in complex environments.
• Strong experience with CI/CD pipeline design and automation.
• Infrastructure as Code and configuration management.
• Systems integration and build automation.
• Secure software development practices.
• Experience operating in high-assurance / regulated environments.
• Experience with availability management, resilience and disaster recovery.

Responsibilities

• Drive the adoption and maturity of DevOps practices, tooling, and platforms across ASD environments.
• Design, implement, and support CI/CD pipelines for applications, infrastructure, and databases.
• Implement and maintain observability capabilities including monitoring, logging, and alerting.
• Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using IaC principles.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate release engineering and availability risks during planning and delivery.
• Improve developer productivity, release frequency, and operational outcomes through automation.
• Support secure build, integration, and deployment pipelines aligned to Defence security requirements.
• Plan, automate, test, and deploy database changes using controlled pipeline processes.
• Identify and implement process and tooling improvements across DevOps workflows.
• Provide senior technical guidance on integration, build, and deployment practices.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and recovery procedures.
