Job description

Nexl is a fast-growing LegalTech company on a mission to elevate the business of law. The company builds an AI-driven CRM and growth intelligence platform that brings a firm’s internal and external data together so lawyers, marketing teams, and business development teams can collaborate, spot opportunities, and grow revenue.

Nexl has been recognised by the Financial Times, Deloitte, and the Australian Financial Review as one of the fastest-growing companies in the region, is trusted by 150+ law firms globally, and recently closed a $23M USD Series B led by Tidemark Capital.

The Opportunity

Nexl is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to help evolve the infrastructure behind a growing SaaS platform.

This role will initially support cloud migration and platform reliability, then help re-engineer Nexl’s infrastructure toward a scalable, maintainable event-driven architecture. You will partner closely with backend, full-stack, AI, product, and design teams to improve how systems are built, deployed, observed, and operated.

We’re looking for someone who is technically rigorous, highly autonomous, and comfortable making pragmatic infrastructure decisions. You will bring strong experience managing production event systems, with Kubernetes as an important secondary capability.

What You’ll Own & Do:
  • Support and improve Nexl’s cloud migration, consolidation, and operational readiness.
  • Help design and operate the platform’s future event-driven architecture, including evaluating and implementing appropriate technologies.
  • Own and evolve Azure infrastructure, including AKS, Terraform-managed environments, CI/CD, and deployment workflows.
  • Improve platform reliability, observability, security, and incident response.
  • Reduce cycle time and deployment friction while maintaining or improving code and infrastructure quality.
  • Build automation for repeatable operational work, including environment management, secrets, configuration, and diagnostics.
  • Partner with engineering teams to improve system performance, scalability, and operational ownership.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident response, and contribute to post-incident improvements.
  • Improve cloud cost and performance, connecting infrastructure decisions to business impact.
What We're Looking For:

Must haves:

  • Strong experience designing, operating, or evolving production event-driven systems.
  • Experience managing event infrastructure and understanding event architecture concepts, trade-offs, terminology, and operational concerns.
  • Experience with one or more event technologies, for e.g. Kafka, SNS/SQS, pub/sub systems, message brokers, or similar) while remaining open-minded about the best technology choice.
  • Strong Kubernetes experience, including operating containerised workloads in production.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code, preferably Terraform.
  • Experience improving CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
  • Strong observability and operational troubleshooting capability.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure; willingness to work primarily in Azure.
  • Strong security awareness across IAM, secrets, networking, and production access.
  • High ownership, sound technical judgment, and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-moving engineering environment.
Nice to haves:
  • Azure experience, including AKS, PostgreSQL Flexible Server, Key Vault, or related services.
  • Experience supporting cloud migrations or consolidating infrastructure across cloud providers.
  • Experience with GitOps deployment patterns.
  • PostgreSQL performance, reliability, or migration experience.
  • Experience with tools such as GitHub Actions, Open Telemetry, or SigNoz.
  • Experience supporting data-heavy, AI-driven, or high-scale SaaS systems.
  • Experience in a scale-up or regulated environment.
What Success Looks Like:
  • Nexl's infrastructure is stable, well-documented, and engineers rarely think about it because it just works.
  • Incidents are detected early, resolved quickly, and prevented through proactive system improvements.
  • Cloud costs are optimised and infrastructure scales efficiently with product and team growth.
  • Security posture is strong, documented, and continuously improving.
  • You help build a DevOps culture at Nexl where reliability and developer experience are treated as first-class product features.
Life at Nexl
  • Hybrid working. You'll be in our Sydney hub 2 days a week for collaboration.

  • High growth. A scaling environment with autonomy, ownership, and visible impact.
  • Learning & development. A dedicated budget to support your professional growth, on your terms.
  • ESOP. Employee stock options so you share in the upside.
  • Birthday leave. Take a paid "Nexl Day" during the week of your birthday.

  • Tools & tech. Modern, AI‑first ways of working to help you move faster and smarter, plus a work laptop.
