Job summary

Wodonga Council is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead design and delivery of civil infrastructure including roads, drainage and pathways. You will prepare designs, specs, cost estimates and construction packages while mentoring colleagues and driving continuous improvement.

You will apply strong technical design capabilities, engage with stakeholders, and ensure projects meet engineering standards and council objectives, working on a range of capital works with a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering suitable for registration as a Victorian Registered Professional Engineer.
• Experience in design and delivery of civil or municipal infrastructure projects.
• Strong design, specs, documentation and contract administration capabilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement across multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

Synopsis

Senior Design Engineer

• Full Time permanent position
• $52.96 per hour + superannuation

As Senior Design Engineer, you'll play a leading role in planning and designing the roads, drainage, pathways and public infrastructure that support our community now and into the future. Working across a diverse portfolio of capital works projects, you'll provide senior technical expertise from concept design through to construction support while mentoring others and contributing to continuous improvement across Council's engineering services.

Key Aspects Of The Role

• Design infrastructure that makes a lasting difference. Lead the design and development of roads, drainage, intersections, pathways and other civil infrastructure that improves the liveability, safety and sustainability of Wodonga. You'll prepare engineering designs, technical specifications, cost estimates and construction documentation that deliver practical and value-for-money outcomes.
• Solve complex engineering challenges. Investigate technical issues, undertake site assessments and develop practical engineering solutions for a wide variety of municipal infrastructure projects. Your expertise will help balance technical requirements, community expectations, budget considerations and long-term asset performance.
• Support the delivery of major infrastructure projects. Work closely with project teams throughout the lifecycle of infrastructure projects, providing technical advice, reviewing designs, supporting procurement activities and ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with engineering standards and Council objectives.
• Provide technical leadership and engineering advice. Share your knowledge by mentoring colleagues, reviewing engineering work and providing trusted technical advice across Council. You'll help maintain high engineering standards while contributing to continuous improvement, innovation and best practice.

What We're Looking For

• Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering suitable to obtain registration as a Registered Professional Engineer (Victoria).
• Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of civil or municipal infrastructure projects.
• Strong technical capability in engineering design, specifications, documentation and contract administration.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Experience using engineering design software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D, together with a commitment to quality, safety and continuous improvement.
