Job summary

ProFound People Pty Ltd is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Defence) in Sydney. Lead the mechanical design of rugged enclosures, structures, mechanisms and thermal solutions for harsh environment Defence systems, from concept through qualification to production.

You will build models and drawings in SolidWorks, apply GD&T, drive DFM/DFA, and perform stress, thermal, shock and vibration analyses. A strong systems engineering background and experience with MIL standards are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Aerospace Engineering
• 8+ years in mechanical design, 3+ in Defence, aerospace or another regulated industry
• Advanced SolidWorks, including large assemblies, sheet metal, weldments and PDM
• Proven concept to production track record with real DFM wins
• Hands on systems engineering experience
• Australian citizen, able to obtain Baseline clearance (NV1 a strong advantage)
• CPEng or NER registration
• ASDEFCON, ILS or Defence airworthiness and seaworthiness exposure
• FEA (ANSYS, Abaqus) or MBSE tools (Cameo, DOORS)
• Ruggedised electronics packaging or vehicle and vessel integration

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of enclosures, structures, mechanisms and thermal solutions for harsh environment Defence systems
• Build models, assemblies and fully toleranced drawings in SolidWorks, applying GD&T
• Drive DFM and DFA from day one across machining, sheet metal, fabrication, moulding and additive
• Run stress, thermal, shock and vibration analysis and tolerance stacks
• Apply systems engineering: requirements, ICDs, traceability, trade studies and V&V
• Take designs through environmental qualification (MIL STD 810, MIL STD 461)
• Present at SRR, PDR and CDR with Defence customers and primes
• Mentor graduate and mid level engineers and check their work
