Job summary

National Workforce is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator on a 12-month contract to support a large Federal Government agency. The role focuses on MongoDB upgrades and migrations, with broad database administration across SQL Server, Db2 z/OS and Db2 Midrange.

Based in Canberra with hybrid arrangements and possible relocation to other cities, you will plan, test and implement changes, maintain data integrity and performance, and collaborate with agency technical teams to deliver

Qualifications

• Expert-level SQL Server administration including performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability and security.
• Expert-level administration of Db2 z/OS and Db2 Midrange.
• Expert-level MongoDB administration including replication, backup and recovery, performance tuning and data consistency.
• Demonstrated experience delivering controlled database upgrades and migrations.
• Hands-on experience supporting databases in containerised environments.
• Strong troubleshooting, technical documentation and stakeholder communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assess database environments and identify upgrade, compatibility, performance and operational risks.
• Plan, validate and implement database upgrades and migrations while minimising downtime.
• Provide performance tuning, replication, backup, recovery and production support.
• Support databases in containerised environments and manage associated deployment and operational risks.
• Document configuration changes, upgrade procedures, risks and lessons learned.
• Support knowledge transfer and skills development within agency teams.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator for a contract opportunity supporting a large Federal Government agency.

The immediate priority is supporting critical MongoDB upgrades and migrations, alongside specialist database administration across SQL Server, Db2 z/OS and Db2 Midrange.

You will work closely with agency technical teams to plan, test and implement controlled changes, maintain data integrity and availability, and strengthen database performance and resilience.
