Job summary

UNSW Sydney is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join the Educational Data & Insights team in Kensington, NSW. The role focuses on leveraging advanced data science and AI to improve learning experiences through student feedback analysis.

You will work on myExperience reporting and develop thematic analysis tools and ML models, delivering evidence-based recommendations to academics and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science/Statistics/Data Science or equivalent.
• Advanced programming in Python and SQL with data science libraries.
• Experience developing ML/GenAI models and evaluating them.
• Strong statistical analysis and justification of methods.
• Attention to data quality and exploratory analyses.
• Ability to structure complex problems and build data solutions.
• Experience with Azure Databricks and cloud data pipelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
• Commitment to UNSW aims and policies.

Responsibilities

• Conduct rigorous experimentation, hypothesis testing, and deep dive exploratory analyses leveraging advanced statistics to enable our university to make the most of student feedback data and improve its student experience and education outcomes.
• Lead the development, evaluation and continuous improvement of high-impact Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning tools and automations (in particular Thematic Analysis Solutions leveraging LLMs and transformers).
• Coach junior colleagues to help lift the broader analytics capability of the team: reviewing their methodology, analysis, code and results through peer reviews.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in Generative AI and data science, identifying opportunities for their application to contribute to our broader university strategy.
