Job summary

Ecommerce Equation, Sydney-based, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own the data and platform powering our EE portal. You will shape the PostgreSQL data model, manage event-driven data pipelines from Shopify, Meta and Google, and drive calculations that turn data into trusted customer numbers.

You will work at scale on AWS foundations, with a focus on fast, correct, and recoverable systems, while enabling AI-first development and safe, incremental changes.

Qualifications

• Deep, hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or equivalent relational database.
• Experience running large migrations safely in production.
• Experience designing and operating event-driven systems and background jobs at scale.
• In-depth knowledge of AWS including Aurora/RDS, SQS/EventBridge, and Lambda or ECS.
• Experience building third-party API integrations (Shopify, Meta, Google).
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and testing harnesses.
• Proactive, problem-solving mindset with ability to prioritise in a fast-evolving market.
• Strong communication: explain data discrepancies to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own data lands, data integrations and calculations ensuring accuracy and recoverability as volume grows.
• Ensure platform reliability at scale with IaC, observability, performance and load.
• Develop idempotent event-driven jobs and integrations with proper error handling and dead-letter queues.
• Lead engineering standards for ADRs, code reviews, testing, AI workflows and guardrails.
