Job summary

Avant Mutual Group is seeking a seasoned Data Architect to own and evolve our data platform architecture across Azure and Databricks, driving maturity, security, and cost‑effectiveness in a highly regulated insurance environment.

You will shape data models, establish standards, and bring architectural ownership in‑house while collaborating with engineering, governance, and business teams to deliver trusted data and actionable insights.

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience across data and technology, 5+ years as a Data Architect or Solution Architect.
• Strong hands‑on with Databricks, or Snowflake/BigQuery, and ability to apply to Databricks environment.
• Strong Azure cloud and data‑architecture expertise.
• Experience taking ownership of an established data platform and driving maturity and simplification.
• Strong data modelling, conceptual/logical modelling, Data Vault, semantic layers, and SQL.
• Experience with consultancies/SIs; ability to review and challenge designs.
• Strong stakeholder skills; balance architectural position with collaboration.
• Experience across multidisciplinary data, analytics, engineering and governance teams.
• Focus on using data architecture to enable better analytics and decision making.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the target data architecture and roadmap for the data platform (Azure/Databricks).
• Define modelling standards across medallion architecture and key domains (member, product, claims, finance).
• Bring architecture ownership in‑house; provide independent assurance over partner designs.
• Build governance for data classification, privacy, retention and security by design.
• Influence Architecture Review Board; translate complex decisions for technical and non‑technical audiences.
