Job summary

Hearing Australia in Sydney is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead the design and evolution of our Azure-based data platform. You will shape scalable data solutions enabling trusted reporting, analytics and insights for government-funded hearing services.

You will partner with stakeholders across business and technology teams, translating complex data into valuable information products that support better decisions and improve outcomes for Australians.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering Hearing Australia's modern data and analytics capabilities. You'll provide technical leadership across our Azure data platform, designing and building scalable data solutions that enable trusted reporting, analytics and business insights.

Working closely with business stakeholders and technology teams, you'll transform complex data into valuable information products that support better decision-making and help improve outcomes for the Australians we serve.

What you'll do

• Design, build and maintain scalable Synapse pipelines, lakehouse solutions and trusted data products that support enterprise reporting and analytics.
• Develop and optimise data ingestion, integration and transformation processes to ensure reliable, high-quality data delivery.
• Monitor, support and continuously improve the performance, reliability and cost efficiency of data platform services.
• Partner with business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose data and analytics solutions.
• Implement best-practice data engineering processes, including automated testing, data quality controls, CI/CD and monitoring.
• Provide technical leadership through mentoring, knowledge sharing and the adoption of modern development tools and practices.

What you'll bring

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative and customer-focused approach.

You'll bring:

• Strong experience in data engineering and cloud-based analytics platforms, with hands-on expertise across the Azure data ecosystem (specifically Synapse).
• Advanced technical skills in SQL, Python and Spark, with experience building scalable ELT/ETL pipelines and lakehouse architectures.
• Proven ability to develop and support enterprise-grade data products, datasets and reporting solutions.
• Solid understanding of data quality, governance, monitoring and observability practices.
• Experience working with modern engineering methodologies, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing and Agile delivery.
• Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
