Job summary

Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Lead Data Engineer (Snowflake, dbt) for a 12-month fixed-term contract in Sydney. You will lead a small team while also contributing hands-on to design, code and data pipelines, supporting ASB data initiatives and financial crime capabilities.

You will translate complex requirements into scalable, well‑controlled data solutions, working across Snowflake, dbt and IBM StreamSets, with a focus on reliability, performance and governance.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on data engineering experience building and supporting production data pipelines.
• Advanced SQL skills and experience with cloud data platforms, ideally Snowflake.
• Experience with data quality, monitoring and production support.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy and support production-grade data engineering solutions.
• Lead and line-manage a small team of 3–4 data engineers, analysts and QAs, providing technical direction and coaching.
• Lead delivery of data engineering initiatives and contribute to codebase and implementation.
• Design and optimise data pipelines, transformations and integration solutions.
• Review code, enforce engineering standards and drive pragmatic decisions when requirements are unclear.
• Establish engineering standards for coding, testing, deployment and monitoring.
• Translate business and financial crime requirements into end-to-end technical solutions.
• Work with Snowflake, dbt, IBM StreamSets and related technologies across cloud/on-prem/Oracle patterns.
