Job summary

Talent Insights Group is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join a major data transformation program in Australia. You will design scalable data foundations using GCP, BigQuery, SQL, and dbt within an enterprise setting.

The role focuses on building reliable data platforms, data models, and pipelines, while collaborating with analysts and stakeholders in an Agile delivery environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial data engineering experience in enterprise environments.
• Proficient in Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery.
• Strong SQL with performance tuning.
• Experience building scalable data pipelines.
• Knowledge of data modelling and schema design.
• Experience with ELT and cloud data warehouse architectures.
• Experience with dbt (dbt Core).
• Agile delivery experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable data platforms, databases, schemas and data models within a complex enterprise environment.
• Develop and optimise data solutions across the GCP data ecosystem.
• Build robust data pipelines and transformations using BigQuery, SQL and dbt.
• Design data models that are performant, maintainable and fit for purpose.
• Implement new database fields, structures and data capabilities across a large organisation.
• Ensure data solutions are reliable, scalable and high performing, with a strong focus on query performance.
• Apply modern data engineering and ELT best practices across ingestion, transformation and modelling.
• Work closely with Data Analysts, Engineers and business stakeholders to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Contribute to data quality, governance and engineering standards.
• Help establish strong data foundations that can scale with the organisation's future needs.

Senior Data Engineer – GCP / Data Foundations

6-12 Month Contract | Sydney preferred / Melbourne

$800-1000 a day including super DOE

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a major data transformation program within a large enterprise organisation.

The organisation is investing heavily in its data capability and foundations, with a focus on building scalable, reliable and high-performing data solutions that will support analytics, reporting and broader business initiatives.

This is a hands‑on engineering role with a strong focus on GCP, BigQuery, SQL and data modelling, working within an established Agile delivery environment.

What you’ll be doing:

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for a Data Engineer first and foremost, with strong experience building data foundations within cloud environments.

You’ll ideally have:

• Strong commercial experience as a Senior Data Engineer in a complex or enterprise environment
• Strong hands‑on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Excellent SQL skills, including query optimisation and performance tuning
• Strong experience with BigQuery
• Deep understanding of data modelling, database design and schema design
• Experience building scalable and reliable data pipelines
• Hands‑on experience with dbt / dbt Core
• Strong understanding of modern ELT and cloud data warehouse architectures
• Experience working within Agile delivery squads
• A track record of delivering successful data engineering implementations within large organisations
• The ability to talk through previous implementations and explain the technical decisions, challenges and outcomes
• A STEM, Computer Science or similarly technical background

Technology

Experience with additional GCP services and modern data tooling will be highly regarded.
