Job summary

Versent in Australia is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build and optimise cloud-native data platforms and AI-powered data products for enterprise clients, using Snowflake, Databricks, AWS and Azure. This hands-on role involves working directly with clients to shape requirements and deliver scalable pipelines that unlock business value.

You will contribute to data governance, quality, observability and security while advancing analytical capabilities and AI-enabled data solutions

Qualifications

• 5+ years in Data Engineering or related roles
• Hands-on Snowflake in production
• Experience with Databricks and lakehouse architectures
• Advanced SQL and Python/PySpark
• ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestration
• AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms
• Terraform for IaC
• Knowledge of Airflow, dbt, Kafka or similar
• Data modelling, governance and security practices
• Customer-facing collaboration with stakeholders

We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges, loves working directly with clients, and wants to build modern data solutions using technologies like Snowflake, Databricks, AWS and Azure.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll design, build and optimise cloud-native data platforms, while also helping clients leverage emerging AI capabilities to create intelligent data products, automation solutions and new business outcomes.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll work closely with clients and delivery teams to design and deliver scalable data solutions that drive real business value.

You'll

• Build and optimise modern data platforms using Snowflake and Databricks
• Develop batch and real-time data pipelines for analytics, reporting, AI and operational use cases
• Create AI-powered data products using technologies such as Snowflake Cortex, semantic search and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
• Design scalable, secure and reliable data architectures across AWS and Azure
• Implement data quality, observability and governance frameworks
• Work directly with client stakeholders to shape requirements and solve complex business challenges
• Apply AI-assisted engineering approaches using tools such as GitHub Copilot and emerging agentic workflows
• Drive performance, scalability and cost optimisation across cloud data environments
• Contribute to technical design, estimation and delivery planning across consulting engagements

What we're looking for

We're looking for engineers who enjoy building, solving and collaborating.

You'll Bring

• 5+ years' experience in Data Engineering or closely related software engineering roles
• Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake in production environments
• Experience with Databricks and modern lakehouse architectures
• Advanced SQL skills and strong Python or PySpark capability
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and orchestration workflows
• AWS and/or Azure cloud platform experience
• Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform
• Experience with tools such as Airflow, dbt, Kafka or similar
• Strong understanding of data modelling, governance and security practices
• Experience working directly with customers, stakeholders and engineering teams
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Bonus points if you have experience with

• Snowflake Cortex AI Functions
• Cortex Search, Cortex Analyst or Cortex Agents
• RAG and semantic search solutions
• AI-powered data pipelines and data products
