The HR Ally is seeking a Technical Business Analyst (Data) in Sydney. This contract role bridges business stakeholders and data teams, translating requirements into data mappings and specifications for engineers, architects and analysts.

Ideal candidates will be hands-on with SQL, data profiling, and end-to-end data solutions—from discovery to testing and delivery—with strong communication and documentation skills.

Qualifications

• 7+ years as a Business Analyst with data focus
• Strong SQL for profiling and validation
• Experience writing data mappings and specifications
• Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL/ELT concepts
• Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, Snowflake)
• Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)
• Agile/Scrum delivery experience
• Excellent documentation (BRDs, FRDs)
• Strong stakeholder communication and collaboration

Responsibilities

• Engage with stakeholders to elicit, analyze and document data requirements
• Translate needs into functional/technical specs, user stories and acceptance criteria
• Perform data profiling to assess quality and structure
• Produce source-to-target mappings, data dictionaries and lineage docs
• Collaborate with data engineers and BI developers on pipelines and models
• Define transformation logic and data quality checks
• Support data migration and warehouse initiatives
• Plan and support UAT with test cases and validation
• Identify gaps/risks and propose solutions
• Support governance and metadata management
• Contribute to Agile ceremonies and status updates
• Manage stakeholder expectations through delivery
