Job summary

Karara Mining Limited (KML) is seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Specialist to join our Business Planning & Commercial team in the Perth CBD office. Reporting to the Contracts Superintendent, you will manage high-value contracts and lead end-to-end tender processes while liaising with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with procurement governance.

Some site travel may be required. You must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Law, Accounting, Commerce or related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in contracts and procurement within mining, resources, construction, infrastructure or energy sectors.
• Sound knowledge of tendering processes, contract negotiations, post-award administration, claims management and procurement governance.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills with contractors.
• Proficiency with MS Office and SAP.

Responsibilities

• Manage high-value and complex pre- and post-contract activities, including procurement, planning, claims, variations, extensions, terminations and close-out.
• Negotiate commercial terms, pricing structures and risk allocation.
• Lead end-to-end tender processes from market engagement to award.
• Interpret complex contractual obligations and provide commercial advice to mitigate risks and maximise value.
• Oversee contractor performance, insurance compliance and contract register management.
• Develop strategies for managing complex, high-risk contracts and mitigating commercial exposure.
• Build trusted stakeholder relationships and provide clear plans and solutions.
• Deliver reporting and present commercial insights to stakeholders and senior management.

Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Specialist to join our Business Planning & Commercial team in the Perth CBD office.

Reporting to the Contracts Superintendent, you will have strong experience engaging with External Contractors and Suppliers to provide day-to-day administration of the Company’s service contracting functions and to liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with the Company’s contracting and approval procedures/policies.

Some site travel may be required from time to time.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Law, Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in contracts and procurement within the mining, resources, construction, infrastructure or energy sectors
• Sound knowledge of tendering processes, contract negotiations, post-award contract administration, claims management and procurement governance
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with contractors
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams, along with previous experience using SAP
• Current National Police Clearance

• Oversee contractor performance, insurance compliance and contract register management
• Develop and implement effective strategies for managing complex, high-risk contracts and mitigating commercial exposure
• Build and maintain trusted stakeholder relationships to establish clear plans, accountability and practical solutions
• Deliver transparent reporting, facilitate effective information sharing and present key commercial insights to stakeholders and senior management
