Job summary

Karara Mining Limited seeks an experienced Senior Contracts Specialist to join the Perth CBD-based Business Planning & Commercial team. Role involves day-to-day admin of contracting, engagement with external contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure policy compliance, with occasional site travel.

Essential qualifications include tertiary degrees in engineering, law, accounting or commerce, plus extensive experience in mining or related sectors, tendering, negotiations and governance.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Law, Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline.
• Experience in contracts and procurement within mining, resources, construction, infrastructure or energy sectors.
• Sound knowledge of tendering processes, contract negotiations, post-award contract administration, claims management and procurement governance.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills with contractors.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams; SAP experience.
• Current National Police Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Manage high-value and complex pre- and post-contract activities including procurement, contract planning, claims, variations, extensions, terminations and close-out.
• Negotiate commercial terms, pricing structures and risk allocation to achieve favourable outcomes.
• Lead end-to-end tender processes from market engagement to contract award.
• Interpret complex contractual obligations and provide commercial advice to mitigate risks.
• Oversee contractor performance, insurance compliance and contract register management.
• Develop strategies for managing high-risk contracts and mitigating exposure.
• Build trusted stakeholder relationships with clear plans and accountability.
• Deliver reporting and present commercial insights to stakeholders and senior management.

Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Specialist to join our Business Planning & Commercial team in the Perth CBD office.

You will have strong experience engaging with External Contractors and Suppliers to provide day-to-day administration of the Company’s service contracting functions and to liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with the Company’s contracting and approval procedures/policies.

Some site travel may be required from time to time.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Law, Accounting, Commerce or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in contracts and procurement within the mining, resources, construction, infrastructure or energy sectors
• Sound knowledge of tendering processes, contract negotiations, post-award contract administration, claims management and procurement governance
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with contractors
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams, along with previous experience using SAP
• Current National Police Clearance

• Deliver transparent reporting, facilitate effective information sharing and present key commercial insights to stakeholders and senior management
