Job summary

Karara Mining Limited in Perth is seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Specialist to manage high-value, complex contracting activities within the Business Planning & Commercial team.

You will liaise with external contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with contracting procedures, handle procurement processes and provide commercial advice to manage risk. Some site travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in engineering, law, accounting, commerce, or related disciplines.
• Strong knowledge of contract management and commercial negotiation.
• Experience in blast and haul mining operations context.
• Experience with goods supply, services and project contracts.
• Advanced change management and risk management.
• Experience with large value, complex contracts.
• Knowledge of contract documentation and dispute resolution.
• SAP and MS Office proficiency; police clearance.
• Eligible to work in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Manage high-value and complex pre- and post-contract activities, including procurement, contract planning, RfX/ITT processes, claims, variations, extensions, terminations and close-out.
• Interpreting complex contractual obligations and providing specialist commercial advice to manage risk and achieve outcomes.
• Managing contractor performance, insurance requirements and contract registers.
• Developing and implementing practical strategies to manage complex and high-risk contracts.
• Supporting the resolution of contractual disputes, claims and legal matters.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to establish plans, accountability and practical solutions.
• Providing transparent reporting, information flow and presentations to stakeholders and senior management.

Job description

Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Specialist to join our Business Planning & Commercial team in the Perth CBD office.

You will have strong experience engaging with External Contractors and Suppliers to provide day-to-day administration of the Company’s service contracting functions and to liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with the Company’s contracting and approval procedures/policies.

Some site travel may be required from time to time.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• Relevant Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering, Law, Accounting, Commerce, or related disciplines
• Strong understanding of principles of contract management and commercial negotiation with practical experience
• Previous experience or similar role in a blast and haul mining operations context
• Practical experience in the use of contractual documentation, including goods supply, services and project type of contracts
• Advanced change management
• Advanced risk management
• Large value and complex contracts exposure
• Advance contracts claim and dispute resolution experience
• Certificate in Contracts and Commercial Management (e.g. CIPSA, CCMP or CCMAP) is a desirable
• Proficiency in the Microsoft suite of applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams) and previous experience in SAP
• National Police clearance
