Job summary

Karara Mining Limited is seeking a Rail Operator Maintainer to oversee train loading, stockpile management, blending, sampling and reporting of product movements. The role includes coordinating load-outs, and assisting with track maintenance on an 8 days on/6 days off FIFO/DIDO roster from Perth or Geraldton.

Essential qualifications include ARC Infrastructure Track Accreditation (PO/POLO/POTV), track maintenance/rail ops experience, WA Driver’s Licence, and National Police Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with other departments to achieve operational plans and targets
• Assist with rail infrastructure inspections and maintenance to ensure a safe and reliable rail system
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety and efficiency
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Line Manager in line with skills and competency

Job description

Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We are seeking a Rail Operator Maintainer preferably with a Track Infrastructure background to support safe, efficient train operations at Karara. The role focuses on coordinating train load-outs, managing stockpiles, overseeing blending, sampling, and reporting product movements, with scheduled periods assisting in track maintenance.

This position operates on a continuous shift roster and requires successful completion of a Category 1 Rail Medical, including drug and alcohol testing.

Operating on an 8 days on and 6 days off roster - FIFO from Perth or DIDO from Geraldton.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

• ARC Infrastructure Track Accreditation (PO, POLO, POTV)
• Track maintenance and/or rail operations experience
• WA Driver’s Licence
• National Police Clearance

To be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia.

The ideal candidate will be able to work shift rosters, with strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently, proven capability in coordinating multiple aspects of the supply chain, and solid logistics experience.

About Us

Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
