Senior Consultant – Manager | Defence Consulting

An established Canberra based management consultancy is continuing to grow following the award of several significant new Defence projects.

With a team of approximately 80 - 100 people and close to 15 years in the market, the firm has built a strong reputation across the Australian Government and Defence environment. They are now looking to appoint several experienced consultants at Senior Consultant through to Manager level across three areas:

• Strategic Writing
• Project & Program Management

Strategic Writing – Navy

This opportunity will suit someone who can take complex, technical or policy-heavy information and turn it into clear, concise material that can be understood by a broader audience.

You don't necessarily need to come from a traditional strategic or technical writing background. Relevant experience could include. Project or Program Management, Change Management, Policy, Strategic Communications, Technical or Strategic Writing.

The key is an ability to interpret large amounts of complex written material, understand the intent and key messages, and rewrite it into something structured, accessible and meaningful.

The work will be undertaken within a Navy environment, so previous Defence experience will be highly regarded.

Project & Program Management – Defence Infrastructure

These positions will support a large and highly significant Defence infrastructure program, working as part of multidisciplinary teams spanning. Project and Program Management, Logistics, Engineering, Business Transformation, Governance and delivery.

This is a landmark program with significant implications for Australian Defence capability and national security.

We are interested in consultants who have worked within complex Commonwealth environments, particularly Defence, HQJOC, CASG, ASA or DFAT, and can operate effectively across large programs involving multiple stakeholders, workstreams and competing priorities.

Procurement & Commercial

The Procurement and Commercial opportunity is slightly different.

Rather than sitting permanently within one project, you will operate as a specialist resource across the firm's broader portfolio, parachuting into existing engagements where additional commercial or procurement expertise is required.

The work will involve reviewing existing approaches, analysing contracts and procurement strategies, identifying commercial risks and opportunities, and providing practical advice on alternative approaches or new ways of thinking.

This is a genuinely established local consultancy rather than a satellite office of a large multinational.

The business has approximately 80–100 staff, has operated for close to 15 years, and has developed an excellent reputation for retaining its people.

There is a clear and well-considered approach to career progression, but importantly, people aren't expected to stay in one narrow specialisation indefinitely.

If you want to broaden your experience, there are opportunities to rotate across projects, work with different clients and develop a more generalist consulting skillset over time.
