National Australia Bank seeks an experienced Industrial Relations Specialist (Senior Consultant) to join the Industrial Relations team and help deliver a next-generation payroll system. The role is based in Melbourne or Sydney and focuses on strategic IR advice, compliance, and cross-functional collaboration with Legal and IT to translate IR requirements into payroll solutions.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in a senior Industrial Relations role.
  • Ability to interpret complex Enterprise Agreements and employment instruments.
  • Experience advising on practical application of employment laws and industrial instruments.
  • Knowledge of pay system environments and IT integrations.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
  • Tertiary qualification in IR/HR/Law or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and tactical IR advice to stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Collaborate with Legal teams to ensure compliance requirements and remediation plans.
  • Partner with IT and Project Managers to translate IR needs into payroll system design.
  • Design and implement system testing regimes and robust review processes.
  • Identify gaps, propose enhancements, and document outcomes for project success.

In this role of Senior Consultant, you will join the Industrial Relations team that’s doubling down on winning together.


You’ll go above and beyond to:


  • Draw on your substantial expertise in industrial relations and a demonstrated ability to interpret complex Enterprise Agreements.

  • Play a critical role in providing strategic and tactical industrial relations advice to key stakeholders, senior leaders and P&C colleagues to ensure payroll compliance and drive effective remediation processes.

  • Be an adept collaborator, working seamlessly across departments partnering with Legal teams deliver on compliance requirements, support Project Managers to meet key milestones, and engage with IT professionals to translate IR requirements into technical solutions for the payroll system.

  • Use your analytical mindset and meticulous attention to detail to enable you to design comprehensive systems testing regimes and robust review processes, ensuring that the payroll platform not only meets current obligations but is resilient to future changes in industrial regulations.

  • Take a proactive approach to identifying gaps, proposing enhancements, and documenting outcomes will directly contribute to the integrity and success of the new payroll system.

  • Provide commitment to best practice, compliance, and continuous improvement will position you as a trusted partner and key contributor to this transformative project.


We’re looking for the best and brightest to deliver the best for our colleagues. You’ll need:


  • Demonstrated experience working in a similar senior Industrial Relations role with expertise in advising on the practical application of industrial instruments and relevant employment laws.

  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the pay system environment (Human Resources Information Systems, payroll systems, award interpretation and time & attendance systems) and the challenges of implementing industrial terms accurately into systems and associated processes.

  • Considerable experience in the effective management of union relationships and enterprise bargaining, particularly in a unionised environment within a large-scale organisation.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present findings, explain regulatory considerations and facilitate training.

  • Ability to build and leverage strategic relationships with key stakeholders to implement changes and initiatives that support organisational outcomes.

  • Tertiary qualified with a degree in Employee/Industrial Relations/Human Resources/Law or related discipline.
