Senior Construction Management and Enforcement Officer
We are entering an exciting period of change as our team has grown to take on full construction management enforcement, for the City of Boroondara. An exciting opportunity has come up to help continue delivering first-class regulatory services to the community to protect our assets, protect public safety and support projects to completion as quickly as possible to minimise community disruption.
About the role
Reporting to the Team Leader Construction Management and Enforcement, you will undertake inspections of building and development sites to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, inspect occupations of Council land where a Local Law permit is required, and ensure Construction Management Plans conditions are compliant.
You will investigate breaches, prepare enforcement documentation and support compliance outcomes through education, negotiation and, where required, formal enforcement action. The role also provides guidance and support to less experienced officers and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives across the team.
This is a field-based role that operates across the municipality and includes occasional after-hours and weekend work. There is no hybrid work offered as the success of our team comes from working together and providing support to fellow-officers to meet daily changes in demand and priorities.
About you
You are an experienced compliance professional with sound knowledge of construction management, asset protection, local laws or a related regulatory environment.
You have demonstrated experience undertaking investigations, interpreting legislation, collecting evidence and making well-reasoned compliance decisions. Your ability to communicate clearly and confidently allows you to manage difficult conversations while maintaining a respectful and customer-focused approach.
You are highly organised, able to manage competing priorities and comfortable working independently in a dynamic service environment. You enjoy collaborating with others, sharing your expertise and contributing to positive outcomes for the community.
Key responsibilities
You will conduct daily occupation inspections of Concrete pours, Crane occupations, cross checking traffic management plans against the activity, scheduled and proactive inspections of construction sites and related activities to ensure compliance with Council Local Laws, the Road Management Act, the Planning and Environment Act, the Environmental Protection Act and other relevant legislation.
You will investigate complaints, gather evidence, maintain detailed records and apply appropriate enforcement measures to achieve compliance and protect public safety, community amenity and Council assets.
You will contribute to process improvements, maintain accurate information within Council systems and support the delivery of high-quality services across the Construction Management and broader Civic Services teams.
At the City of Boroondara, we are committed to creating a vibrant and inclusive city that meets the needs and aspirations of our community.
